Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will introduce a Government motion next week to declare a climate change emergency.
If Parliament supports the motion, it will be a symbolic move - the declaration of a climate change emergency doesn't effect any rules or regulations.
The exact wording of that motion will be publicly released the day before.
About 18 months ago, Green MP Chloe Swarbrick tried to have a climate change emergency declared - but her motion was blocked by the National Party.
The 53rd Parliament has kicked into action this week, with an address this morning by Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy.
