The Huddle: Excitement in the air as country gears up for trans-Tasman travel

The Government's granted a trans-Tasman travel bubble the go-ahead.

Quarantine-free flights between Australia and New Zealand are set to begin on April 19.

But the Prime Minister warns there will be travel disruptions if there's a Covid-19 outbreak.

Jacinda Ardern says they've designed a traffic-light framework similar to our Alert Level system.

If a case pops up in Australia - officials will either continue, pause or suspend flights.

She says if a case is clearly linked to a border worker and is well contained, travel will continue.

But multiple cases without an origin could cause flights to that region to be temporarily suspended.

Meanwhile, Cabinet minister Kiri Allan has been diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer.

She's posted in social media that she'll take medical leave while she's undergoing therapy, and the the fight of her life is beginning.

Allan says Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been a mate and colleague throughout the process - and she cried telling Ardern the night she found out.

Acting ministers will be appointed to take care of her portfolios.
