Matthew Tukaki and Clare de Lore join Heather du Plessis-Allan on the Huddle.

Palmerston North's National teen candidate is in hot water around a photo taken of him when he was 14.

William Wood, now 18, was pictured posing as Hitler with a small painted-on moustache.

Ms de Lore told Heather du Plessis-Allan at 14 there is a further 10 years for a male's brain to fully develop.

"Cut him some slack."

Mr Tukaki is confident that Mr Wood has learnt his lesson.

Meanwhile, a TVNZ reporter was told off on-air for remarks he made about an Australian woman in a video.

The reporter, in a joking fashion, criticised the woman's appearance, prompting Breakfast host John Campbell to tell him to leave.

Mr Tukaki does not see the big deal with the comment.

"Should he have said it? Probably not, but what form did it take and what was the context, and do we really need this to be the centre of attention in New Zealand today."

Mr Tukaki likens the situation to Mr Wood, saying we should cut the reporter some slack too.

Ms de Lore says the choice of the story itself was odd.

"If you watch the whole thing, it is a story about abuse.

"She was being victimised by him [the former partner]."

In other news, New Zealand has suspended its extradition treaty with Hong Kong due to China's controversial security law.

Ms de Lore says the country probably, purposely took their time in making the decision.

"These things are usually very well though out.

"I think the Chinese have reacted in a predictable fashion. They have to object to it, they have to make that really well-known."
