The Government is speeding ahead with incentives for electric vehicles but is facing backlash.

New rebates for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles will be introduced on July 1st - with fees on higher emitting vehicles to help fund the scheme starting next year.

It follows the Climate Change Commission's advice to increase the uptake of low emission vehicles.

Transport Minister Michael Wood says a discount on electric, hybrid and low emission vehicles, funded from a fee on higher emitting ones, is the best policy to increase uptake.

Meanwhile, an Auckland film and television producer involved in a controversial Christchurch terror attack film has pulled out.

Philippa Campbell has withdrawn from the team working on the proposed They Are Us movie.

She says she deeply regrets the shock and hurt announcement of the film has caused.

Campbell says it focused on film business, and didn't take enough account of the political and human context.

A petition to scrap the film now has over 60,000 signatures.
