Tourism New Zealand's CEO is defending the large amount of money spent while an American talk show host visited the country.
Taxpayers forked out more than $100,000 for Stephen Colbert and his crew last month.
Stephen England-Halltold told Heather du Plessis-Allan Colbert's visit presents a modest amount of money for a strong return.
"In this particular case, you are reaching about 3 million potential visitors to New Zealand via Stephen Colbert's show.
"Obviously we have become a major piece of content on his shows."
