Sports Huddle: Weirdest Olympics ever, Super Rugby in Queenstown, last Commonwealth Games?

The Beijing Winter Olympics, which kicks off tonight, has been dubbed the “weirdest Games ever” by a commentator.

It comes after the stringent Covid restrictions, including daily testing and biosecurity bubbles for athletes and media in-between venues and hotels.

These Winter Olympics have come under controversy over politics, including human rights abuses, and the situations with Hong Kong and Peng Shuai.

Super Rugby players aren’t all that keen to be isolating in Queenstown for their campaigns.

The six Super Rugby Pacific squads have all moved into bubbles in Queenstown and play games there and in Dunedin for the first three weeks.

The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July might just be the last edition.

Compared to the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games aren't as commercially attractive and aren’t as prioritised as the Olympics.
