The SPCA says it's time to stop putting goldfish in fishbowls. 

While goldfish can live for up to thirty years in large aquariums, a spherical bowl can cut their life expectancy down to a matter of weeks. 

Several European countries have gone as far as banning fishbowls entirely. 

Dr Alison Vaughan, a scientific officer at the SPCA, told Heather du Plessis-Allan that fishbowls are not an appropriate environment.  

“They’re not living anywhere near their potential”
