Sky TV's new boss has plans for a bright future.

Martin Stewart's stepping down as CEO of Sky TV, after less than two years on the job.

Sophie Moloney will be taking up the mantle, the company's first female CEO.

She told Heather du Plessis-Allan she's honoured and humbled.

"Slightly exhilarated, not going to lie, but I come with a huge amount of experience. Pay TV is kind of in my blood, and I am just so grateful to Martin."

Moloney says Stewart, who she had worked with before, was a transformational leader for the company but that no one could have scripted Covid-19 and the impacts of it.

Herald head of business Duncan Bridgeman says the move could affect two changes in the pipeline for Sky.

He says there could be changes to when Sky Broadband and the new, Android-powered set top box launch due to Stewart's ability to work through these projects.

On her priorities, Moloney told du Plessis-Allan that Sky is excited by their current sports rights, but will be "there competing" when the next rights round comes up.

She says she plans to move forwards with Sky's broadband plans.
