The Government is pushing to get ghost homes filled.

It's been revealed $500,000 has been allocated towards testing initiatives aiming to encourage owners to fill their empty properties.

It's estimated there are 40,000 empty homes in Auckland alone.

Property Investors Federation's Sharon Cullwick told Heather Du Plessis Allan there are lots of reasons as to why they're empty.

“Renovating, you might be deciding what to do. You might have a new partner or something, deciding which house. Holiday homes too, often are empty for a long period of time.”
