Auckland Airport says airlines desperately need clarity on plans to reopen the border.
It says all ten airlines it's spoken to in the last 24 hours say they either need a date when self-isolation will go or at least know what will trigger it ending.
Auckland Airport's General Manager for aeronautical commercial Scott Tasker told Heather Du Plessis Allan they need certainty as self-isolation is a big issue for them.
“They do view that that will significantly impact the demand for travel to New Zealand and that doesn't give them the confidence to allocate their aircraft to fly here.”
Tasker says they want to come here, but they might choose not to.
“Self-isolation doesn’t provide the certainty that they need because their travellers, their customers, won’t want to fly here if they have to spend the first seven days of their holiday sitting in a hotel.”
