The internet and the Newstalk ZB newsroom is divided: is it okay to recline your seat on a flight or not?
It’s a question that has bothered Heather du Plessis-Allan all day, and it has turned out that listeners are just as split.
One texter wrote in response to Heather’s editorial: "plebs who put their seat back on domestic flights in front of me get the little overhead air vent positioned onto their head to keep them cool. They normally get the message".
But what do the airlines think?
Ex-purser with British Airways Ryan Sitton told Heather that if you worked on a weekly basis, you would have multiple incidents to mediate over that time.Â
He says that the recliner is there for a reason, but it is all about etiquette.Â
"It's about taking a look at your surroundings."Â
He says that if you have to, you have to, but you just need to be polite to your fellow passengers.Â
"I'm 100 per cent for reclining, but don't be a knob about it."
If the person behind you is reclined, then you are perfectly welcome to do the same yourself, Sitton says. Â
