There's hopes an overhaul of school performance reports will help lift the overall standard of schools.
The Education Review Office is introducing a four-point, colour-coded scale, to rate performance from next term.
This will show whether schools are excelling; doing well; working towards; or require improvement across 14 areas.
Chief Review Officer Ruth Shinoda says they'll then set out areas of improvement for schools.
"We're not going to back down from this, we will see a school struggling, we're going to call that and say - what support does that school need? And then make sure that they get that support."
