The Ministry of Health is launching a drug information site called High Alert.

The website aims to identify where drug harm is occurring and tries to anticipate possible trends and outbreaks in New Zealand.

They also want people to share their experiences with bad drugs on the site.

Ministry of Health Group Manager Mental Health and Addiction Directorate Richard Taylor told Heather Du Plessis-Allan the credibility of the website won't normalise drug use in New Zealand.

"I think the Ministry of Health is really clear on this. It's always safest not to use drugs at all, however, we do have a responsibility to minimise the harm caused by drug use wherever we can."

He says all the information they collect will be completely confidential and for the sole use of High Alert.

"Anyone who's experiencing unexpected or concerning effects from drugs can share their experiences via the website, and that will help keep others safe."
