Poverty campaigners are warning the lack of takeaway services during the lockdown is leading to some going without a decent meal.
Some are locked down in temporary accommodation or garages, where cooking facilities often aren't available, and they can struggle to afford non-perishable food.
Auckland Action Against Poverty's Ricardo Menendez-March told Heather du Plessis-Allan that their main concern is that
“Central Government should ensure that more money is put into meal delivery services as well as pumping more income into people's pockets so they can actually buy things that are non-perishable.”
He says this has been an issue before the lockdown happened. He says that community services should step in with strict guidelines set down by the Government to fill in the gaps left by the ongoing situation.
