Auckland's mayor says he feels for the city's hospitality industry.  

Tāmaki Makaurau will move to the orange traffic light setting at midnight on December 30.  

So will every other region in red, except Northland.  

Phil Goff told Heather du Plessis-Allan he advocated for a shift to orange as soon as possible, to help the hospo sector. 

"They would have liked the boost obviously pre-Christmas. The Government has done what it normally does, it's exercised caution, and, you know, I'm reluctant to criticise caution as it has saved thousands of lives in New Zealand."
