Charities say we are yet to get the full picture on child poverty.

New official stats show about 25,000 children have moved out of material hardship.

But that doesn't take into account Covid-19 - only the nine months to March 2020.

The Salvation Army's Paul Barber told Heather du Plessis-Allan the figures show some progress, but there's no doubt the pandemic has had an impact.

He says they have seen signs of the increasing hardship that people are facing.

"23,000 more children in households that rely on benefits. We have to give out 13,000 food parcels, which is nearly double the amount we gave out in 2019."
