Three Waters protesters made their voices heard today in Nelson as the council gave feedback on the proposed reforms.
But the protest quickly went awry with grey haired citizens being escorted out of the council building by police.
A response, Neville Male, who was behind the protest described as a complete overreaction.
The three waters reform refers to drinking water, waste water and storm water.
The proposed reforms would divide New Zealand into four different entities which would manage these water infrastructures, and take the management away from the local councils who currently look after them.
But Male says for Nelson this would be to Nelson’s disadvantage if someone in Wellington was calling the shots.
He said “our attitude here is we own the water assets. We've got confidence in the people that maintain our water assets.”
