A messy end for Simon Bridges' leadership.
The former head of the National Party lost his position to Todd Muller today.
It followed a devastating Colmar Brunton poll that showed National at 29 per cent.
Political commentator and former chief of staff for the Prime Minister Neale Jones says Bridges was always unpopular.
He told Andrew Dickens until now, National voters were willing to hold their nose.
“I think his conduct during the Covid crisis was overtly negative and political in a way people didn't want.”
Former National Party president Michelle Boag says Todd Muller understands the business sector.
