Commissioner: Police must own racial bias perception

The Police Commissioner says they don't racially profile people and there's no systemic racism in the Police force.

But Mike Bush admits there's unconscious bias throughout, and they've brought in a police-wide programme to meet it head on.

The Greens co-leader Marama Davidson today openly accused the police of racial profiling and systemic racism, speaking of her and her brother's experience.

Mike Bush says people aren't intentionally targeted by the colour of their skin.

But he told Greg Boyed the difference between racial profiling and unconscious bias may feel the same to the person who's on the receiving end.

"So we can't have people thinking that they are being racially profiled or targeted. So if people think that, we as an organisation have got to own that and deal with it."
