A Covid-19 modeller says there is use in the calculations.
Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins this morning told Mike Hosking that he's sceptical about models but they're useful, comparing them to weather forecasts.
Te Punaha Matatini modeller Michael Plank told Heather du Plessis Allan modelling is like weather forecasts in that it's not perfect, but is useful.
“What models can do which weather forecasts can’t is that they cannot allow you to think about what an outbreak might look like in different scenarios.”
Plank says modelling can help answer questions like what an outbreak would look like if more people were boosted or children vaccinated.
