One of the country's top courier companies would prefer no extra charges for using the roads.Â
Officials are looking at charging to travel on key routes during peak hours.
For a car, that could mean paying $3.50 to drive through the central city. For freight vehicles, the charge would be more like $7.
Mark Troughear, the CEO of courier company Freightways, told Heather du Plessis-Allan that if they are going to be charges, there would need to be a trade-off in productivity, as otherwise those fees would be passed on to customers.Â
"Would you get a productivity benefit by virtue of there being less traffic in the CBD or not?"
He says that the life of a courier is already tough in Auckland's CBD, and Auckland Transport needs to look at the whole system to make it easier.Â
