There are warnings not to become complacent about Covid-19.

Over the weekend, the World Health Organisation declared lockdowns aren't a long-term solution.

But countries were also advised they can't ride out the Covid-19 crisis waiting for a vaccine.

Spokesperson Margaret Harris told Heather Du Plessis-Allan while we wait - we must suppress the virus.

"Take all the actions that are working so that you keep your virus levels as low as possible. Get rid of it totally if you can."

She says our short-sharp lockdowns make all the sense in the world.

"New Zealand is keeping laser-sharp eyes on where the virus is, and getting in there and repressing the transmission right away."
