George Pell is back in prison tonight after Victoria's highest court today rejected his appeal against his child sex convictions.

The court of appeal has upheld the verdicts of the county court jury, that found Pell guilty on five child sex abuse charges.

Lisa Flynn served as the lawyer for the father of one of Pell's victims, who has died since the abuse took place. She told Heather du Plessis-Allan that it has been a very emotional day for her client.

She says that he was quite anxious leading up the decision.

"He had tears of relief in his eyes when the decision was handed down, and he was quite upbeat after the decision."

However, the appeals process remains open to Pell, making it a possibility that the case is not yet over.

Flynn says that they do not know if there will be an appeal lodged, but the client is now seeking compensation.

"Our claim will be against the church and Pell, and is really focused on the impact that it has had on our client."

She says that her client would like to see Pell lose his honours and be de-frocked by the Catholic Church.
