There are hopes the UK Government will be able to pick up citizens from New Zealand.

British High Commissioner to New Zealand Laura Clarke told Heather du-Plessis Allan an estimated 20,000 Brits here want to go home.

She says it's tricky - but they're trying to get commercial flights running, as well as transit hubs.

"We're making sure there's enough provision there for people to get out. But it's complicated by the fact it's now quite hard to get to departure international airports."

Clarke says that they are looking for ways they can achieve this that complies with the state of emergency.

"In the meantime, we're doing all we can to get updates to our British nationals, give them information about flights and about New Zealand's Covid level four guidance, sot hey can navigate that to best effect."
