It's time for our kids to buckle up on school buses - especially in rural areas.
Waitaki Valley farmer Philippa Cameron has launched a petition calling for mandatory seat belts.
Federated Farmers Karen Williams told Heather du Plessis-Alan rural children are at higher risk.
She says they often depend on school buses more than urban kids.
"It's on the open road a lot of the times, so the bus is at 80kms, other traffic at 100kms.Â
"We often have narrow roads [that are] windy, gravelly."
