National Party leader Judith Collins may not have won the election, but she may have next Christmas' best-selling novel on her hands.

Talking to Heather du Plessis-Allan about the year in politics, Collins revealed her summer plans - which, alongside planning the year ahead, will include some

"I'll also be plotting out a bit of a plot for a thriller."

Collins says that while she has already written a memoir, this new one will be fiction.

She hasn't spoken to the publisher yet, but is confident they will want it after her "quite successful" first book.

"I won't have it ready, so don't get too excited, for quite some time, as I do just want to plot it out."

Collins suggests it might be ready in time for next Christmas.

She says that she loves to write, and finds it quite relaxing, and that her first book was done in a Christmas break.

On politics, Collins says she is pleased to see the back of 2020. However, she does regret taking up the National Party leadership.

Collins revealed today that she initially said no to taking over from Todd Muller when he announced his resignation.

"I slept on it, and I woke up and thought that having told my colleagues that I'd be good in the job, the last thing I should do is run away from what would be a really difficult time."
