A Waikato mayor is making the case for his district to move to Alert Level Two.

Waikato is moving to Step Two of Alert Level Three from midnight tonight while Auckland is set to follow suit in a week.

Waitomo Mayor John Robertson told Heather du Plessis-Allan they haven't had a Covid-19 case since April last year - but they've been lumped in with the other Waikato districts.

“We’ve got a big slice of the Tasman Sea. We then border with Taranaki, with New Plymouth, with Ruapehu District, with Taupo, and they’re all at Level 2. We’ve just in the north, got this line between us and the Otorahonga Council.”
