Farming leaders have today proposed a way to price greenhouse gas emissions created on farms.  

Under the model, individual farmers would be responsible for calculating their own emissions and paying a levy on those emissions. 

The levy would increase progressively over the years but it can be reduced by planting native trees for example.  

It's now up to the Government to decide whether it's on board with the idea.
