Frustrated kiwi parents could draw inspiration from an American couple and sue their kids out of their homes if they wanted to.

A New York judge has ordered a 30-year-old man to move out after his parents took him to court, having spent months trying to evict him.

Divorce lawyer Jeremy Sutton told Chris Lynch while he’s never heard of this happening in New Zealand, legally it could be done.

"It would really be on the basis that the parents own the home and he doesn't have any right to live there in terms of any agreement for a fixed term for example or for any period of time."
