Wellington council has banned parking on footpaths across the city.

There will be a two month grace period, but after that, fines will be handed out.

Wellington city councillor Jenny Condie, who holds the parking portfolio, joined Heather du Plessis-Allan.

“The priority for us is always public safety, and at the moment there’s a chance that we have mums walking with prams that get pushed out, they have to walk around the vehicles onto the road. We have people using mobility scooters and other aids to get around and they’re having real challenges.”
