Replace that breakfast bacon with some smashed avocado.

New figures from Stats NZ show avocados are at their cheapest average price since February 2017.

They were $7.54 per kg in October, which is down from a record high of $28. 

However, pork prices are skyrocketing, because of the outbreak of African swine fever in China.

The price of bacon has increased 24 per cent in the year to October, and ham has gone up 22 percent.

Overall food prices are up 2.5-percent, led by a sharp rise with a restaurant and ready-to-eat meals.
