TV Producer: I feel ripped off and disappointed at Three for Demolition Down Under

A small Kiwi production firm is making copyright allegations at Three and Discovery, alleging it's ripped off one of its shows.

TV producer Jeff Hampton ran a show called Demolition New Zealand between 2018 and 2020, and then got into talks with Three to see if they'd support a new series, but nothing came of it.

He’s frustrated to learn Three is now broadcasting a show called Demolition Down Under with the same premise and look, and similar graphics, but set in Australia.

Hampton says the whole structure was so similar it was like putting together a jigsaw and feels ripped off and very disappointed that Three didn’t back it.

“They never gave us a straight answer on whether they were going to back us with NZ On Air funding and that’s what I’m disappointed about.”

Hampton said Demolition NZ was fourth in the top 10 NZ On Air-funded shows and screened in 71 countries.
