A new Lord of the Rings film, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is in development. 

The movies will be filmed exclusively in New Zealand, and the first is expected to be released in 2026. 

Hollywood Reporter Sandro Monetti told Heather du Plessis Allan “For the first time we are getting original Lord of the Rings stories.” 

Monetti said “The Amazon series was based on appendices, Tolkien’s own history.”
