Queenstown's bungy pioneers are getting a $10 million Government funding boost.
Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis has announced AJ Hackett Bungy will get $10.2 million of Covid-19 recovery support - made up of a 5.1 million dollar grant - with the rest as an interest free loan.
It's part of the $400 million Tourism Sector Recovery Package.
Davis says by supporting AJ Hackett Bungy they're protecting a world-famous tourism asset - as well as the flow-on benefits for the local community.
He says the company will use the funding to keep its highly-skilled workforce - even with the drop in visitors numbers being felt hard.
Co-founder Henry van Asch told Andrew Dickens that they are relieved by the funding.
He says that they'll use the money to keep their jump-masters - who take three to four years to train - in a job.
"Even though it looks casual and fun on the outside, it's always been a very rigorous and carefully considered process behind the scene."
