Grant Robertson believes it’s still possible Auckland will be out of lockdown for Christmas.

The Deputy Prime Minister also says his quip about National giving Covid for Christmas was to do with a specific policy about the border.

He told Heather du Plessis-Allan they're looking at vaccination rates and the state of the outbreak before making the decision to move Auckland out of lockdown.

“As we get to that 90 per cent plus area, that does open those options up. Metro Auckland DHBs numbers are up around 87 per cent first dose now, so we’re not that far away from getting to that 90 per cent level.”
