Labour is remaining staunch on its approach to wealth tax, despite claims from National they will bend over and meet the demands of the Greens.

Labour has maintained it will strictly not introduce a wealth tax, but National thinks otherwise, citing the current Government's willingness to spend.

Regardless, Greens co-leader James Shaw expects to have talks around a wealth tax should they enter negotiations with Labour after the election.

Finance Minister Grant Robertson told Heather du Plessis-Allan he has no problem with the Greens strong stance.

"They're entitled to campaign for their policies, that's what all political parties do at election time. What we're doing is campaigning for our tax policy and being very clear what we will and won't do when we are in Government.

"James Shaw's been very clear it's a top priority not a bottom line."

Meanwhile, the Finance Minister is not expecting to be made Deputy Prime Minister should Labour win the election on Saturday.

He says currently, Kelvin Davis is Labour's deputy leader.

"I was there and I actually nominated Kelvin for the position of deputy leader so it wasn't just the Māori caucus who wanted him there, I wanted him there," he says.

"Absolutely none [regrets] whatsoever, Kelvin has done a terrific job."
