The Finance Minister says there are many options to reduce costs in its infrastructure package which don't involve cutting projects
A more detailed costing of projects in the $12 billion package has revealed costs are higher than forecast, pre Covid-19.
Grant Robertson told Heather du Plessis-Allan there's a range of different things they can do, instead of cancelling.
"We can either find more money to complete the project, even if its more than what we originally budgeted for, we might slow down and rephase the project a little bit."
He says that all projects go through a process called 'base-lining', where officials go back and check if the estimates are accurate - and they still want to go through with all the projects, but no decisions have been made yet.Â
Robertson says that this happens all the time with infrastructure projects.Â
"People are getting way ahead of themselves talking about cancelling projects."Â
