'I disagree with virtually everything you just said': Robertson, HDPA clash in fiery interview

The Prime Minister's second-in-command warns not to read into the latest One News Colmar Brunton results.

Latest polling shows Jacinda Ardern's personal rating dropping a massive 15 per cent, down to 43 per cent.

The Labour Party's still well ahead of its opponents, but has dropped four points to 49 per cent.

National has picked up two points, leaving it at 27 per cent.

But Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson told Heather du Plessis-Allan Ardern is still doing a tremendous job for Kiwis.

"We get really strong feedback about support for her. This is one particular poll - I still think those ratings are pretty high."

Asked if controversies over the delay in announcing Auckland's lockdown move and refusing to apologise to the KFC worker had dented Ardern's popularity, Robertson says he could pick apart why "I disagree with virtually everything you just said".

"There are always going to be ups and downs, there are always going to be individual decisions that people perhaps don't like, but overall her popularity remains quite strong."

Robertson also protested the suggestion that the increase in coal imports was due to the oil and gas ban, and defended the Government's stance on the trans-Tasman bubble - leading to a heated interview with du Plessis-Allan.
