The UK has approved use of the Pfizer vaccine from next week.
New Zealand's Health Ministry has an agreement to buy 1.5 million doses of the vaccine over the course of 2021.
Malaghan Institute director Graham Le Gros told Heather Du Plessis-Allan it would be good to know when, so people can start putting their lives back together.
"Although we don't have the death and destruction like elsewhere, we still have a lot of people impacted by the virus, so the sooner we can get the vaccine the better."
