New Zealand's Olympic campaign started with a 2-1 loss to Australia on Wednesday.
The Football Ferns lost 2-1 to the Matildas last night.
The Men's football "Oly Whites" is opening their tournament with a match against South Korea, who won Bronze at London 2012.
Former All White Fred de Jong says last night was the best opportunity for the Football Ferns to get a result.
“The next game’s against the number one ranked team in the world, the US, and the game after that is fifth-ranked Sweden who beat the US last night 3-0 comfortably.”
The Football Ferns are ranked 22nd in the world.
The Oly Whites on the other hand have an easier group with South Korea, Honduras and Romania, but de Jong says this is the toughest game.
“This’ll be a very, very tough game, but the Oly Whites team has got some good talent in it.”
