The new MPs voted into Parliament on Saturday night have arrived in Wellington today for their inductions.

In total, 40 MPs will begin new careers in the capital, including New Zealand's first African, Latin American and Sri Lankan Members of Parliament.

New Green list MP Ricardo Menendez March says it's been life changing.

"Something that I am really excited to sink my teeth into, but today has been a full day of inducting."

New National Botany representative Christopher Luxon says it was like the first day of school.

"We've been given our computers and our instructions and how the process works, and there's a lot of information to digest."

ACT list MP Simon Court says he was given a personal tour of the House today, from his leader David Seymour.

He says today's induction was just 'okay'.

"You know, it is the public sector. I come from the private sector, and there is plenty of room for improvement here."

Labour MP Rachel Boyack, who rolled National's Nick Smith in Nelson, recognises the region's former representative.

She told Heather du Plessis-Allan Smith is a formidable opponent.

"Nick has extraordinary experience and has done an awful lot for the Nelson community, and I do want to acknowledge the work he has done over many years."
