New figures from Stats NZ have shown that the forestry industry had one of the highest rate of work-related injury claims.

In 2018, Statistics NZ found that there were 190 claims per 1,000 full-time equivalent employees (FTEs) for the industry compared to 102 claims per 1,000 FTEs for other industries.

National safety director at the Forest Industry Safety Council on the high rates of injuries in the sector Fiona Ewing spoke with Heather du Plessis-Allan to explain the reasons behind the high rates of injuries in the sector and what is being done to prevent future accidents.
