Federated Farmers says some farmers might be deliberately turning a blind eye to M Bovis on their farms.
The Ministry of Primary Industries has concerns some farmers are not cooperating, which makes tracking the spread of the disease difficult.
Federated Farmers President Katie Milne says some owners might know they have calves from infected properties, or haven't realised that's where they've come from.
Milne says stories of delayed compensation from MPI might mean worried owners have kept their mouths shut.
But it's the wrong attitude.
"If we are going to eradicate this we do need everyone to do their tagging correctly and actually asked questions when they purchase stock about where they have come from."
