The Government is consulting on schemes to make manufacturers, importers and retailers responsible for waste.

The Associate Environment Minister has announced plans to regulate oversight of reusing and recycling things that get dumped , such as plastic packaging, tyres and batteries.

She told Heather du Plessis Allan some plastic is needed for food safety.

‘I would like to see changes in the supply chain, so manufacturers make products with materials that can be recovered when they've done their dash and reused.”

Sage says we have the infrastructure to re-purpose plastics.

“Introducing a ban product by-product by-product takes time, and you have to establish the case for that. It’s better to shift to a more circular economy.”
