We need to be absolutely sure there's no covid 19 cases in New Zealand that we don't know about.
Targeted testing is being organised this weekend in the wake of a man who travelled from New Zealand to South Korea before testing positive for covid-19.
University of Auckland's microbiologist Siouxsie Wiles told Heather du Plessis-Allan the virus is out there in the world and we are becoming a little bit more complacent.
"It's kind of good news this testing, Â because we've been a bit relaxed with testing in the community over the last few weeks."
Wiles says if people have any symptoms of Covid-19, they should go straight to the doctor and get tested.
"If the virus does get out into the community, it will spread really fast, we have seen this happening in Victoria."
