A suggestion it might be time to take some of the heat out of our approach to Omicron.

Royal College of GPs medical director Bryan Betty says we've come out a period of two years of elimination and fear of Covid-19.

He told Heather du Plessis-Allan that was quite justifiable given Delta was a very dangerous disease but the situation has changed rapidly in the past couple of months.

“Start to think about how do we live with this and move through this. The other question I’ve got at the moment: are we doing more harm than good in some of the indicators we’ve got out there in terms of the other health issues that we have to deal with?”

New Zealand has 1929 community cases today with 73 people in hospital.
