An expert says that a major drug bust won't stop illegal substances flowing in.

After eight months, 10 people have been arrested and up to $5 million worth of drugs seized in 'Operation Mystic'.

But former drug squad detective Dale Kirk told Heather du Plessis Allan it needs a variety of interventions, because there are always others out there ready to set up new operations.

"It really is a matter of being a little bit smarter about it and trying to reduce demand as well as interrupt supply."

He says the country can't arrest itself out of a drug crisis.

"I think the Police and the Customs have been boosted in recent years, and really are doing a good job. They are doing as good of a job as can be expected

"But you can't have a police officer on every beach, you can't have a customs officer circling every container that comes into the country."
