The Government's latest is scheme is being described as a great opportunity to show the world how 'school food' should be done.

Jacinda Ardern today announced a $45 million trial free lunches for schools programme. 

By the end of 2021, it'll be in 120 schools in Rotorua, Hawke's Bay, Otago and Southland, benefiting 21,000 students.

Eat Right Be Bright founder Clarissa Mackay told Andrew Dickens they're interested to see how the plan will look like.

'For the last two years I've been researching and school food is rather complex. It's not like normal catering; it is individual and a complex situation."

She says that schools can get in touch if they need help with programmes like this.

"We're saying to any of the schools out there who are unsure how this works they can connect with us."
