Aucklanders are fed up with fireworks, according to one local councillor.
Auckland Council's calling on the government to ban the public sale of fireworks, after only two councillors voted against the proposal.
If successful, it'll see the end of private displays in people’s backyards.
Councillor Cathy Casey has been tasked with taking the council's concerns to the Government.
She told Larry Williams that the people have spoken and their message is clear.Â
"We've been consulting the people of Auckland for the last while, and we've had nearly 8,000 submissions."Â
Casey says there was no campaign behind it, it was all genuine people.Â
"People are fed up with fireworks all year round. It's the harm to animals, it's the harm to people, it's the noise."
They need the Government's help in order to get the by-law through, as they cannot ban what people do privately.
Casey says that if they do not get the support, they will be aiming for a Private Member's Bill.
