The Community Board is waiting on a public health assessment as to whether the border can open.
But Waiheke Restaurant Association chair Catherine Vosper says told Heather du Plessis-Allan it needs to open now.
“62 per cent of our customers are Aucklanders. Some of us are still able to open for takeaways and contactless deliveries and that sort of thing, and it’s just cut of our key market.”
Waiheke Island is currently sitting on 90 per cent first doses and 82 per cent second doses.
